Shiatsu - The Art of Healing Through Touch
Shiatsu is a form of bodywork originating in Japan. It is both a form of physical therapy and a means of greater integration of body, mind and spirit - a holistic therapy.
The principles of Shiatsu are rooted in the traditions of oriental medicine and use similar energy channels and points as in acupuncture, involving non-invasive and intuitive touch combined with highly skilled stretching and mobilization techniques.
A session lasts one hour and is given with the person fully clothed. It takes place in a peaceful room on a futon on the floor, or a specialized chair if preferred. Following an initial assessment of your health condition, each session will be unique and tailored to individual needs.
Generally, the therapist works on the entire body to stimulate energy flow through the whole system and activate the body’s own ability to rebalance and heal itself. This is usually experienced as a sense of deep relaxation.
At the end of the session will be a short period of rest, in order for the session to be fully assimilated. Recommendations may be given or exercises shown to continue at home, to support the process of restoring and harmonizing health.
In essence Shiatsu is simple. It consoles and nurtures, calms the mind and helps promote feelings of well-being.
